Farnham Town are pleased to announce the signing of George Butler from Burnham.
The 20-year-old came through the youth ranks at Farnborough during the 2020/21 season while they were in the Southern League Premier South, making a handful of appearances in the first-team prior to signing a new deal with June 2021 which saw him established as a first-team player.
Over the course of the 21/22 campaign aged just 17, George continued to make an impression in the first team while playing alongside current Farnham Town fan favourite Harry Cooksley as Farnborough secured promotion to the National League South via the playoffs.
For the last two seasons, George has been plying his trade with Burnham of the Combined Counties Premier Division North. Comfortable in a number of positions, George made the majority of his 55 appearances for the Blues at left-back, but can also operate at the heart of the defence or in central midfield, offering great versatility to the squad.
Some of the more keen-eyed fans will remember George as he featured for Burnham in their pre-season trip to The Memorial Ground as well as their visit back in December 2023 in the FA Vase, where the Town ran out 6-0 winners, but George did impress that afternoon.
He becomes the Club’s third new arrival announced this summer, following Marcin Brzozowski from Oxford City and Shay Brennan from Tooting and Mitcham United.
Manager Paul Johnson said: “We were impressed by George when we played Burnham in pre-season, and again in our FA Vase tie during the season. We went to watch him a few times after that and found him to be a very impressive young footballer. He’s big, physical, athletic and strong in the air.
“It’s a squad game at this level and you need players who can fill in across a number of positions. George’s adaptability will be important for us this season. Having come through at Farnborough at a young age, we know he has the quality to kick on and improve. He’s only 20, he has room to grow as a player and will join a squad with a lot of experienced players who will help bring him along. I’m pleased we’ve been able to sign George and I look forward to working with him this season.”
Everyone at Farnham Town would like to welcome George to the Club and we look forward to seeing you at The Memorial Ground again this season!
