Farnham Town are delighted to announce the signing of sought-after striker Sam Evans from Slough Town for an undisclosed fee, on a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season.
The 22-year-old striker is a player well-known to Paul Johnson, Jimmy Hibburt and the staff at Farnham Town having brought him to Bedfont Sports from Woking as a 19-year-old in the summer of 2022. Evans went on to score 16 goals in 35 games for the Eagles during the 22/23 season but was unable to prevent them from relegation in the Isthmian South Central Division.
From there, Sam transferred to Hanwell Town of the Southern League Premier South in the summer of 2023 and again enjoyed a successful individual campaign, tallying 16 goals and eight assists for the Geordies.
Those performances earned Sam another jump up in the football pyramid, transferring to Slough Town of the National League South in July 2024, penning a two-year contract with the Club. He’s made 24 appearances in the league this season, scoring six goals.
With considerable interest from teams higher up the leagues, the Town made a compelling offer to bring Sam to the Club and we’re thrilled to be securing a player of his calibre and profile for the remainder of this season and next.
Speaking about Sam’s arrival at the Club, Manager Paul Johnson said: “Everyone connected to the Club should be excited about us bringing in a player like Sam. We only got to work with him at Bedfont Sports for a short period of time, but it was apparent that this was a young player with excellent ability who will go on to do great things in the game.
“Over the last three seasons, this is a striker who has performed very well with every step up he’s taken, moving from Step 4 to Step 3 to Step 2 in successive seasons off the back of excellent goalscoring records for his young age. Once it was known that Slough were open to letting him go, the Club did everything the could to get the deal over the line and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to reunite with Sam not just for the remainder of this season, but also next year as well.
“This is a striker who is big, physical, strong aerially and also a ruthless finisher in front of goal. At 22, he’s still at a young age and developing his game, and should be able to grow alongside the trajectory we want to go on.”
Club Chairman Harry Hugo added: “At Farnham, we always have an eye on the future and make decisions with that in mind. In recent seasons, we’ve been willing and prepared to make late-season additions to the squad with the view of them being a part of the following season’s plans. We did it when we brought in Shamal Edwards and Lewis Flatman in 2023, we did it when we brought in Mark Waters around this time last year, and we’ve done so recently when we brought in Zaki Oualah and now Sam Evans and tied them down until the end of next season.
“From speaking to Paul about the type of player Sam is, but also what sort of character he is and how he will fit into our dressing room, it became clear very quickly that this was a player who I felt was a perfect fit at the Club. He’s of a great age, has goalscoring pedigree higher up the leagues and is the right sort of profile where he can grow and develop alongside the Club, aligning with our long-term vision.
“This is a transfer that illustrates how far we’ve come as a Club, with Sam being the first-ever player Farnham Town have signed for a transfer fee. The Club has transitioned and moved up into a position where we’re dealing and competing with big, big clubs for players now, and it shows what an attractive proposition we are that a highly-regarded, highly-sought after player like Sam Evans, playing in the National League South, wants to come and sign a contract to play his football at Farnham Town for multiple years.
“Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, Sam is a player who has a proven goalscoring record in this division, and the level above, and we’re delighted to add him to our ranks for the run-in and next season.”
Everyone at Farnham Town would like to thank Scott Davies and the team at Slough Town for their extensive cooperation in finalising Sam’s transfer to the Club this week. Sam will wear the No.32 shirt for the remainder of the season and has been registered in time to feature in Saturday’s home game against South Park.
