We can confirm that long-time Farnham Town favourite Max Meaton will be leaving the Club with our best wishes as he pursues new opportunities elsewhere.
Max will be remembered as one of the Club’s greatest servants and more revered players. A local lad that came through the youth setup, Max spent more than a decade in the first-team setup at The Memorial Ground and experienced all the highs and lows that football has to offer.
He’s seen it all during his time with Farnham Town, helping the team win the Premier Challenge Cup in 2015, earning promotion from Step 6 in 2021, the extra-time comeback to lift the Southern Combination Cup in 2023, and then scoring the goal which clinched the Combined Counties Premier Division South title and promotion from Step 5 in 2024.
Last season, Farnham Town’s first-ever at Step 4, Max was a key part of the team’s early season success, appearing in 18 of the Town’s first 24 games of the season (16 starts), with Paul Johnson’s side winning 15 of those games. Injury meant Max missed most of the winter period of the season, but he returned in March to appear in each of the final seven league games of our title-winning Isthmian South Central campaign.

Chairman Harry Hugo said: “There are many people associated with Farnham Town who have been here a lot longer than I have who have known Max longer than I have, but in my experience, Max is one of the nicest and most genuine people I’ve met in non-league so far.
“He’s a humble, funny, down to earth guy who loves the Club and loves the Town. He’s given pretty much half of his life to Farnham Town and the Club is indebted to him for his contributions over the years. He’ll always be remembered as the man who scored the goal the clinched the Combined Counties title and promotion to Step 4 for the first-time ever.
“In the years I’ve been involved at Farnham, Max has had his unfortunate struggles with injuries, but he’s been a reliable and steady performer for the team whenever called upon. We’re all sad to see him go but we’re all wishing him well as he leaves us to play regular football elsewhere and hopefully stay injury-free.
“I look forward to seeing Max back down at Farnham as a fan in the future, along with his family who have been big supporters of the Club along the way. He’s got a special relationship with the Club and he’ll be missed greatly.”
298 appearances, three promotions, two cup successes and a decade’s worth of memories made, Max is considered part of the furniture at the Club and will always be welcomed back with open arms.
