Farnham Town’s flying full back has fond memories of the FA Cup.
Now in his seventh season at Farnham Town, right back Max Meaton is well placed to review the new look squad and their potential for the upcoming campaign in a higher division.
“This is a quality squad that definitely deserves to be in this league”
And, after just a handful of pre-season friendlies, Max is already “impressed by the great team spirit” and is confident enough to predict that Farnham Town is on for a “top half finish” in the Combined Counties Premier Division South.
Away from the league, it’s Farnham Town’s forthcoming trip to AFC Varndeanians in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup this Saturday, that brings back a particularly memorable moment for Max.
“It was the best thing I ever did as a defender” recalls Max.
“During an FA Cup tie a couple of years ago, we’re under pressure, and I made an absolute worldy of a goal line clearance by sliding right across from the back post to deny them an absolutely nailed on goal”.
However, like so many defenders, Max’s Magic Moment is, in fact, a goal.
“A 35 yard volley against Knaphill” he grins.
“Their player actually pushed me into it and the ball flew in to pull the game back to 1 – 1”
Here’s hoping Max that can repeat his Knaphill cracker against AFC Varndeanians on Saturday!
