The Town Keeps Cup Run Going

Farnham Beat Cove 3-1 To Reach Round Three Of The Southern Combination Cup

On a freezing cold night, a reshaped Town team fired home three second half goals to come from behind and move into the third round of the Southern Combination Cup at the expense of a spirited Cove side that made them fight hard for the win.

It was Cove that took the lead when Jake Woods flashed home a fine shot just after half time.

But Farnham responded almost immediately through returning striker George Pilbeam, added a second from a trademark free kick from left back Tom Smith, and wrapped things up with a debut goal from 16 year old Olly Ryman.

Who says that you can’t win anything with kids?!?

Manager Colin Millard rang the changes to good effect:

“Tonight was an important game for us because it gave me an opportunity to look at a change of shape.

It also provided a chance for some of the players returning from injury to gain minutes on the pitch.

So, all in all, seven changes from the side that beat Fleet Town on Saturday, including another new goalkeeper and young Olly Ryman who stepped up from our under 18’s for his first taste of senior football.

Olly’s little 20 minute cameo was refreshing.

He brought a eagerness, a freshness to the team with his willingness to get past his man.

Olly certainly did himself no harm and I’m pleased he got himself a goal.

There’s an old saying in football which is “if you’re good enough you’re old enough”.

Just like I’ve done with Will May, if I think that a youngster can add to the team, he’ll play.

Overall, it was a decent workout.

We could have played better, especially in the first half, but being a little disjointed was to be expected.

However, we’ve won and we move forward”.

Another good win that the Town will look to build on when they travel to table topping Walton & Hersham this Saturday.

The Town’s next home match is in the Aldershot Senior Cup against Camberley Town on Tuesday 30 November.  KO 7:45pm
