Farnham Town confirm the signing of Shay Brennan from Tooting and Mitcham United

Farnham Town are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Shay Brennan from Tooting & Mitcham United. He will wear the number 11 shirt for the Town.

Brennan becomes the second new arrival at The Memorial Ground this summer, following the capture of goalkeeper Marcin Brzozowski from National League South side Oxford City.

Before arriving at Imperial Fields last summer, Brennan had established himself as a prolific goalscorer wherever he’s been. In 2021/22, he netted 56 goals in 33 games for Aylestone Park in the United Counties League Division One before transferring to Gresley Rovers of the United Counties League Premier North, netting eight goals in their final nine games, firing them to promotion to Step 4.

The following season, Brennan was again pivotal to a promotion campaign, bagging eight goals in nine games for Anstey Nomads as they clinched the United Counties League Premier North title and promotion to Step 4.

Shay then moved down to London and joined Tooting & Mitcham United for their first season in the Combined Counties Premier Division South following their relegation. He took the league by storm, averaging a goal a game across the 2023/24 season, netting 33 goals in as many league appearances, making him the top scorer in the division and the ninth-highest league goalscorer at Step 5 nationwide.

He also scooped up the majority of awards at Tooting’s end-of-season ceremony, collecting the Member’s Club, Supporter’s, Player’s and Manager’s Player of the Season, along with the Club’s Golden Boot award.

He now joins a Farnham Town side in the Isthmian South Central following our unbeaten, title-winning campaign. Having captained Tooting last season, he will add some experience, leadership and most importantly quality in the final third.

Manager Paul Johnson said: “I’m pleased we can announce Shay as a Farnham Town player today. He’s someone who has a proven goalscoring record throughout his career and made an immediate impact in our league last season. He was the top scorer in the division averaging a goal a game in a team that struggled, which is a terrific return.

“He was a player we were following in the second half of last season when it became likely that we would go up, as someone we would look to target in the summer. From speaking to him about what we’re looking to do next season and beyond, it’s clear that he was bought into that project and wants to be part of our success. Goalscorers with his record don’t come around very often. There were a number of Clubs at our level and higher looking at Shay, and I’m glad we’ve been able to get him in. I look forward to working with him in pre-season and introducing him to the rest of the squad.”

Everyone at Farnham Town would like to welcome Shay to the Club, and we’re excited to see you turn out in the Claret & Blue next season!
